Awarding of Certificates of Live Birth in security paper to Birth Registration Assistance Project beneficiaries in Biliran

As the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) – Birth Registration Assistance Project (BRAP) is continuously implemented around the country, more and more Filipinos have benefited from this project. The BRAP aims to increase the level of birth registration, especially in marginalized communities such as those belonging to the Indigenous Peoples (IPs), Muslim Filipinos, and the poorest sector in the country. It also aims to ensure that these groups are enrolled in the Philippine Identification System and have been issued with their Philippine Identification (PhilID) card which is a gateway for them to claim their social benefits and legal identity. With these, the affected population can now avail social services and fulfill their basic rights because they can now present birth records and PhilID to prove their legal identity.

The PSA led by Undersecretary Claire Dennis S. Mapa, joined in the first and biggest one-stop shop of government services tagged as “Bagong Pilipinas Serbisyo Fair” (BPSF) held in Biliran Province State University, Main Campus, Naval, Biliran on 26 to 27 August 2023. During this event, one of the major highlights is the awarding of PSA-issued Certificates of Live Birth (COLB) printed in security paper (SECPA) to the beneficiaries of the BRAP. As the BPSF continues to be implemented throughout the country, the PSA likewise gives its full support by awarding free COLBs to the beneficiaries of BRAP.

As of 24 January 2024, a total of 1,471,938 birth records were received by PSA-Civil Registration Service for verification in the PSA Civil Registry System database. Out of this number, a total of 1,467,048 birth records had been verified, wherein 1,206,783 of which have no birth record. Out of those that have been verified, a total of 205,957 birth records were processed through delayed registration before the concerned Local Civil Registry Offices while 69,818 COLBs were printed in PSA SECPA and issued to the beneficiaries, free of charge.
