Value of Production in Agriculture and Fisheries

The value of production in agriculture and fisheries at constant 2018 prices, which amounted to PhP 413.91 billion, declined annually by 3.3 percent in the second quarter of 2024. This was due to the annual decreases in the values of crops and livestock production during the period. Meanwhile, values of poultry and fisheries production posted annual increments. (Figure 1, and Tables 1.1 and 2.1)

Crop production, valued at PhP 220.04 billion, was 8.6 percent lower than its level in the same quarter of the previous year. It contributed 53.2 percent to the total value of agriculture and fisheries production in the second quarter of 2024. Declines in the value of palay and corn production were registered at 9.5 percent and 20.3 percent annually, respectively. (Tables 1.2, 2.1, 2.2, and 3.1)

For livestock, the value of production amounted to PhP 63.33 billion, a contraction of 0.3 percent from its value in the second quarter of 2023. It comprised 15.3 percent of the total value of production in agriculture and fisheries in the second quarter of 2024. Hog, the major contributor to the total value of livestock production, decreased year-on-year by 0.2 percent. (Tables 1.3, 2.1, 2.3, and 3.1)

The value of poultry production amounting to PhP 70.15 billion expanded annually by 8.7 percent during the period. It accounted for 16.9 percent of the total value of production in agriculture and fisheries in the second quarter of 2024. All poultry commodities registered increments in their value of production. (Tables 1.3, 2.1, 2.3, and 3.1)
