Food, Beverages and Tobacco (FBT) and Non-FBT Items
(NCR and AONCR - October 2011)
(2000=100)

A. CPI of Food, Beverages and Tobacco (FBT): National Capital Region (NCR) and Areas Outside the National Capital Region (AONCR)

The seasonally adjusted CPI of FBT items in NCR and AONCR correspondingly moved up to 164.1 and 179.0 in October from their respective September levels of 161.3 and 177.3.

The effects of typhoons that hit the vegetable producing areas in Northern Luzon significantly lowered the supplies of vegetables in the wet markets in selected regions including NCR. In addition, higher prices of fish were observed as its supply in the markets was affected by the difficulty in catching fish species due to unfavorable weather conditions. The floods also caused a supply deficit in some fish species in the wet markets. Price additions in fruits were also seen during the month. These seasonal factors however did not push up prices of FBT items in NCR and AONCR relative to the expected trend.

Price movements of the seasonally adjusted CPI for FBT items in NCR and AONCR were registered higher at 1.7 percent and 1.0 percent in October compared to their corresponding rates of 0.6 percent and 0.5 percent in September.

B. CPI of Non-FBT items: National Capital Region (NCR) and Areas Outside the National Capital Region (AONCR)

The seasonally adjusted CPI of non-FBT items in NCR and AONCR increased to 178.3 and 174.2 in October from their last month’s levels of 177.7 and 173.8, respectively.

Seasonal factors like the increase in production of selected goods in preparation for the holiday season lowered prices of non-FBT items in the two areas relative to the expected trend.

The monthly growth of the seasonally adjusted CPI for non- FBT items in NCR slowed to 0.3 percent in October from 0.9 percent in September while in AONCR, it remained at 0.2 percent.
