RICE STOCK

  • The country’s total rice stock inventory as of November 1, 2009 was estimated at 2,958.6 thousand metric tons. It was 19.0 percent higher than last month’s record and 0.7 percent more than last year’s level.
  • Compared to last month, household stocks went up by 64.0 percent while stocks in commercial warehouses also grew by 11.6 percent.  In contrast, stocks in NFA depositories, of which 71 percent were imported rice went down by 8.2 percent.
  • Comparative estimates with those of last year indicated reduced stock inventories in the households by 5.8 percent and in commercial warehouses by 13.8 percent. The volume of stocks in NFA depositories increased by 18.4 percent compared to same period last year.
  • The November 1, 2009 inventory of rice stocks would be enough for 84 days. Stocks in NFA depositories would be good for 33 days, while those in commercial sector would be good for 13 days. Household stocks would last for 38 days.

CORN STOCK

  • As of November 1, 2009 the total corn stock amounted to 294.5 thousand metric tons. This was lower by 24.9 percent compared to last month’s level but 44.0 percent higher than the stock level for same period last year.
  • Compared to last month, volume of stocks in the household sector went down by  52.9  percent and in   the commercial sector by 12.6 percent. On the other hand, stocks in NFA depositories increased by 23.6 percent.
  • Compared to last year, stocks held in the households dropped by 6.0 percent, but these went up by 16.1 percent in commercial warehouses.
  • Of this month’s total corn stock, 28 percent were with households, 46 percent with the commercial warehouses and 26 percent with the NFA depositories.
