To provide essential information on the country’s production of palay and corn, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) clears the conduct of three surveys on palay and corn to be undertaken nationwide. These surveys aim to generate statistics that will benchmark information to farmers, researchers, policymakers, and other stakeholders in their planning, monitoring, program formulation, and intervention for the sector.
The palay and corn surveys renewed for clearance are as follows:
- The Palay Production Survey (PPS) is a quarterly survey aimed to generate statistics on palay production, area, and yield covering 27,246 palay farm households in the Philippines. The survey will utilize a total budget of PhP 38.0 million.
- The Corn Production Survey (CPS) is a survey which aims to generate estimates on corn production, area, and yield. A total budget of PhP 31.0 million will be utilized for the survey to interview 29,054 corn farm households.
- The Monthly Palay and Corn Situation Reporting System (MPCSRS) is a survey undertaken to monitor the growing conditions and actual planting of palay and corn. It aims to provide forecasts for the current quarter based on the current standing crop for the next quarter based on planting intentions, and to provide monthly updates on the area and production by growth stages. A budget amounting to PhP 10.8 million will be utilized by the survey.
The timetable of activities for these surveys are as follows:
Title of the Survey | Data Collection | Release of Results |
---|---|---|
PPS and CPS | First 10 days of every survey month | 10 days after the reference month |
MPCSRS | First 5 days of every survey month | 15 days after the survey month |
These surveys were reviewed and cleared for conduct under the Statistical Survey Review and Clearance System (SSRCS), a mechanism being implemented by the PSA by virtue of Rule 28 of Implementing Rules and Regulations of Republic Act No. 10625 to:
a. ensure sound design for data collection;
b. minimize the burden placed upon respondents;
c. effect economy in statistical data collection;
d. eliminate unnecessary duplication of statistical data collection efforts; and
e. achieve better coordination of government statistical activities.
In line with this, the PSA enjoins the palay and corn farm households across the country to support and participate in the said surveys by providing the information needed. Authorized PSA interviewers will visit the palay and corn farm households to conduct personal interview.
