The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) granted clearance for the conduct of the Wholesale Price Survey (WPS) for Agricultural Commodities. This statistical survey, which will be undertaken by the PSA on a daily/weekly basis, aims to provide monthly wholesale prices of selected agricultural commodities traded in the major provincial markets in the country.
Specifically, data from this survey will be used as guide to:
Farmers’ decisions related to the type and volume of agricultural production; and
Policymakers’ formulation of policies related to the supply of agricultural commodities in the markets.
A total budget of PhP 12.5 million will be utilized for the survey to interview wholesalers/traders for commodities listed in the Provincial Wholesale Market Basket. Results of the survey are expected to be released every 45 days after the reference month.
The WPS for Agricultural Commodities was reviewed and cleared for conduct under the Statistical Survey Review and Clearance System (SSRCS), a mechanism being implemented by the PSA by virtue of Rule 28 of Implementing Rules and Regulations of Republic Act No. 10625 to:
ensure sound design for data collection;
minimize the burden placed upon respondents;
effect economy in statistical data collection;
eliminate unnecessary duplication of statistical data collection efforts; and
achieve better coordination of government statistical activities.
In line with this, the PSA enjoins all wholesalers and traders to support and participate in the conduct of this survey by providing the required information. Authorized PSA interviewers will visit establishments to collect prices of commodities.
