The total number of regions, provinces, cities, municipalities, and barangays in the country as of the Fourth Quarter 2023 remained the same as compared with the Third Quarter 2023 PSGC (Table 1). No creation or merging of geopolitical units was done during the 3-month period of October to December 2023.

Meanwhile, the following 11 barangays in City of Iloilo that share the same barangay names have been assigned their respective district descriptor to differentiate one from the other.

1. Barangay Luna (Jaro)
2. Barangay Luna (La Paz)
3. Barangay San Isidro (Jaro)
4. Barangay San Isidro (La Paz)
5. Barangay San Jose (Arevalo)
6. Barangay San Jose (City Proper)
7. Barangay San Jose (Jaro)
8. Barangay San Pedro (Jaro)
9. Barangay San Pedro (Molo)
10. Barangay Tabuc Suba (Jaro)
11. Barangay Tabuc Suba (La Paz)

However, adding a district descriptor in the barangay name does not constitute a change in the name of the barangay. It only indicates additional information, that is, the district in which the barangay is situated. This measure addresses the confusion in determining the district where the barangays sharing identical names belong.

The compilation and updating of the PSGC is a collaborative effort of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) and its interagency Technical Working Group on Geographic Code (TWGGC) composed of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Commission on Elections (COMELEC), National Mapping and Resource Information Authority (NAMRIA), and the Land Management Bureau (LMB).
