The January to March 2023 duck egg production was estimated at 13.36 thousand metric tons, indicating an increase of 3.8 percent from the 12.87 thousand metric tons output in the same period of 2022. (Figure 1)

During the period, Central Luzon was the top producer of duck egg with 7.74 thousand metric tons or 57.9 percent share to the total duck egg production. Completing the top five regions with the highest volume of duck egg production in the first quarter of 2023 were the following:
a. Western Visayas, 1.30 thousand metric tons;
b. Northern Mindanao, 0.93 thousand metric tons;
c. SOCCSKSARGEN, 0.63 thousand metric tons; and
d. Cagayan Valley, 0.44 thousand metric tons.

These regions accounted for 82.5 percent share to the country’s total duck egg production during the period.

Relative to their outputs in the same quarter of 2022, nine regions recorded increases in duck egg production during the period. In terms of level, Central Luzon reported the highest increase of 0.53 thousand metric tons, from 7.21 thousand metric tons in the first quarter of 2022 to 7.74 thousand metric tons this first quarter of 2023.

As of 31 March 2023, the total duck laying flock inventory was estimated at 7.76 million birds. This was 14.9 percent higher compared with the previous year’s same period count of 6.75 million birds.

Central Luzon recorded the highest duck laying flock population of 3.69 million birds during the period. This was followed by Western Visayas and Cagayan Valley with corresponding inventories of 0.60 million birds and 0.53 million birds. These three regions shared 62.2 percent to the country’s total duck laying flock population as of 31 March 2023. (Figure 2)

The average farmgate price of duck egg was quoted at PhP 8.09 per piece during the reference quarter. This was 15.6 percent higher than the previous year’s same quarter quotation of PhP 7.00 per piece. (Figure 3)

In the first quarter of 2023, the highest average farmgate price was recorded in January at PhP 8.14 per piece, while the lowest average farmgate price was quoted in February at PhP 8.05 per piece.
