Updates on October-December 2022 Palay and Corn Estimates, 01 November 2022

HIGHLIGHTS

Based on standing crop as of 01 November 2022, the estimated palay and corn production for the period of October to December 2022 may decrease its level compared with the same period of 2021. 

PALAY 
1. The estimated palay production for October to December 2022 may decrease to 7.31 million metric tons or by -1.3 percent based on standing crop as of 01 November 2022, from its actual estimate of 7.41 million metric tons in the same period last year. Likewise, the updated estimate of palay production as of 01 November 2022 for the period of October to December 2022 was lower by -1.6 percent than its estimate of 7.43 million metric tons as of 01 October 2022. (Table 1 and Figure 1)

2. The estimated harvest area for the period of October to December 2022 may decrease to 1.78 million hectares or by -0.8 percent, from 1.80 million hectares actual estimate of harvest area in the same period of 2021. The yield per hectare of palay for the period of October to December 2022 may decrease to 4.11 metric tons or by -0.5 percent, from 4.13 metric tons in the same period of the previous year. 3. About 1.13 million hectares or 63.3 percent of the 1.78 million hectares updated harvest area of standing crop have been harvested as of 01 November 2022. (Tables 1 and 2)

4. Out of the 1.13 million hectares area harvested as of 01 November 2021, the actual production was recorded at 4.72 million metric tons. (Table 2)

5. Of the total area of 654.21 thousand hectares of standing crop yet to be harvested as of 01 November 2022, 4.9 percent were at the vegetative stage, 31.3 percent at the reproductive stage, and 63.8 percent at the maturing stage. (Table 3 and Figure 2)

CORN
1. Based on standing crop as of 01 November, the updated corn production for the period of October to December 2022 may decrease to 2.03 million metric tons or by -4.7 percent from its actual estimate of 2.13 million metric tons in the same period of 2021. Meanwhile, the updated estimate of corn production as of 01 November 2022 was higher by 2.1 percent than its estimate of 1.99 million metric tons as of 01 October 2022. (Table 4 and Figure 3)

2. Harvest area for the period of October to December 2022 may decrease to 627.74 thousand hectares or by -5.1 percent, from 661.69 thousand hectares actual estimate of harvest area in the same period of 2021. Yield per hectare may increase to 3.23 metric tons or by 0.5 percent, from 3.21 metric tons in the same period of the previous year. (Table 4)

3. About 300.04 thousand hectares or 47.8 percent of the 627.74 thousand hectares updated area of standing crop have been harvested as of 01 November 2022. (Tables 4 and 5)

4. From the area harvested as of 01 November 2022, the actual production was recorded at 1.03 million metric tons. (Table 5)

5. Of the total area of standing corn yet to be harvested as of 01 November 2022, 3.2 percent were at the vegetative stage, 55.2 percent at the reproductive stage, and 41.6 percent were at the maturing stage. (Table 6 and Figure 4)
