Philippine Statistics Authority Board Approves Modifications in the System of Designated Statistics

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Board approved the modifications in the attributes of the designated statistical activities conducted by the PSA, specifically the Price and Fisheries surveys, which involve renaming of surveys, amending the frequency of conduct, geographic disaggregation and schedule of dissemination, and designation of a statistical indicator.

PSA Board Resolution No. 06, s. 2020 was issued approving the modifications which cover the updating of the designated statistical activities of the PSA namely: 1) Commercial Fish Catch Survey; 2) Municipal Fish Catch Survey; 3) Survey of Retail Prices of Commodities for the Consumer Price Index (CPI) – Agriculture and Non-Agriculture; 4) Seasonally Adjusted Consumer Price Index; and 5) Farm Prices Survey, and the designation of “inflation rate” derived from the CPI. The Interagency Committee on Agriculture and Fishery Statistics and the Interagency Committee on Price Statistics endorsed the aforementioned modifications, as found to be compliant with the criteria for modification of designated statistics.  The System of Designated Statistics (SDS) is thus updated, as follows:

Designation of Statistical Indicator (NEW)

With the designation of inflation rate, the SDS now covers 59 designated activities/statistics from the previously listed 58 activities/statistics, distributed among 19 agencies, per Executive Order (EO) No. 352 and subsequent PSA Board Resolutions. These include four (4) censuses, 21 surveys, 19 administrative data systems, five (5) derived data systems, and 10 statistical indicators.

EO 352 “Designation of Statistical Activities that will Generate Critical Data for Decision-Making of the Government and the Private Sector” was issued in July 1996 to identify and designate the most critical and essential statistics required for social and economic planning/analysis. The SDS identifies the title of designated statistical activity or statistics, implementing agency, frequency of conduct, geographic disaggregation, and schedule of data dissemination.

The SDS (http://www.psa.gov.ph/philippine-statistical-system/sds) is a dynamic system that allows for modifications to respond to changing needs and priorities, and to emerging capabilities of agencies in the Philippine Statistical System.
