The seasonally adjusted CPI for all items at the national level posted a zero percent monthly growth in December 2021, from a 0.5 percent monthly increment in November 2021.

Mixed month-on-month movements were observed among the commodity groups in December 2021.

A higher monthly uptick of 0.2 percent was noted in the seasonally adjusted CPI for education in December 2021, from 0.1 percent in November 2021.

On the other hand, monthly increase slowed down in the seasonally adjusted CPI for food and non-alcoholic beverages at 0.1 percent in December 2021, from 0.5 percent in November 2021. The seasonally adjusted CPI for alcoholic beverages and tobacco, and clothing and footwear also moved up at a slower pace of 0.1 percent during the period, from 0.2 percent in the previous month.

Moreover, the seasonally adjusted CPI for recreation and culture dropped month-on-month to -0.1 percent in December 2021, from 0.1 percent increase in November 2021.

The deseasonalized CPI for health, and restaurant and miscellaneous goods and services, both retained their previous month’s growth rate of 0.2 percent. Similarly, the seasonally adjusted CPI for housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels; and furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house moved at their previous month’s growth rates of 0.4 and 0.1 percent, respectively.

A zero percent growth was noted in the seasonally adjusted CPI for non-food during the month, from 0.4 percent in the previous month.

The seasonal factor such as the degree of demand of selected goods and services during the season pushed up the indices of all items, and food and non-alcoholic beverages.

However, the seasonal factor pushed down the indices of the following:

          a. Alcoholic beverages and tobacco;
          b. Clothing and footwear;
          c. Furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house;
          d. Health;
          e. Recreation and culture; and
          f.  Restaurant and miscellaneous goods and services.

The indices of non-food; housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels; and education were not affected by this seasonal factor. (Table 1)

2. National Capital Region (NCR)

The seasonally adjusted CPI for all items in NCR moved up at a slower pace of 0.2 percent in December 2021, from 0.4 percent in November 2021.

Month-on-month increment decelerated in the deseasonalized CPI for non-food and health at 0.2 percent in December 2021, from their respective previous month’s growth rates of 0.4 and 0.3 percent. The deseasonalized CPI for housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels, likewise, went up at a lower monthly rate of 0.4 percent, from 0.6 percent.

In addition, the seasonally adjusted CPI for food and non-alcoholic beverages decreased month-on-month to -0.3 percent in December 2021, from 1.0 percent in November 2021; and transport at -0.8 percent from 1.4 percent.

On the other hand, monthly increase was higher in the deseasonalized CPI for education, and restaurant and miscellaneous goods and services at 0.2 percent from 0.1 percent. Similarly, the seasonally adjusted CPI for alcoholic beverages and tobacco inched up month-on-month to 0.1 percent during the month from -0.3 percent in the previous month, while furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house retained its previous month’s growth rate of 0.1 percent.

A zero percent growth was, however, observed in the deseasonalized CPI for clothing and footwear, and recreation and culture during the month, from their corresponding previous month’s growth rates of 0.2 and 0.1 percent.

The seasonal factor such as the degree of demand for selected goods and services during the season pushed up the indices for all items; food and non-alcoholic beverages; and housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels.

However, the seasonal factor pushed down the indices of the following:

          a. Furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house;
          b. Health;
          c. Recreation and culture;
          d. Education; and
          e. Restaurant and miscellaneous goods and services.

The indices of the following were not affected by this seasonal factor:

          a. Alcoholic beverages and tobacco;
          b. Non-food;
          c. Clothing and footwear; and
          d. Transport. (Table 2)

3. Areas Outside National Capital Region (AONCR)

Similar with the trend of the national level, the seasonally adjusted CPI for all items in AONCR exhibited a zero percent monthly growth in December 2021, from a monthly increase of 0.5 percent in November 2021.

The deseasonalized CPI for furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house; and restaurant and miscellaneous goods and services, both moved up at a faster pace of 0.2 percent in December 2021, from 0.1 percent in November 2021. On the other hand, the monthly increment slowed down in the seasonally adjusted CPI for clothing and footwear at 0.1 percent from 0.2 percent.

Moreover, the seasonally adjusted CPI for recreation and culture went down month-on-month to -0.1 percent in December 2021, from 0.1 percent uptick in the previous month.

Meanwhile, the month-on-month movement of the seasonally adjusted CPI for alcoholic beverages and tobacco; and education, both remained at 0.1 percent; and housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels at 0.4 percent.

A zero percent monthly growth was posted in the seasonally adjusted CPI for food and non-alcoholic beverages; non-food; and health.

The seasonal factor like the degree of demand for selected goods and services during the season pushed up the indices for all items, food and non-alcoholic beverages, and education.

On the contrary, the seasonal factor pushed down the indices of the following:

          a. Alcoholic beverages and tobacco;
          b. Clothing and footwear;
          c. Housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels;
          d. Furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house;
          e. Health;
          f.  Recreation and culture; and
          g. Restaurant and miscellaneous goods and services.

The seasonal factor did not affect the index of non-food. (Table 3)
