Those for health and education indices remained at their last month’s rate of 0.2 percent and 0.3 percent, respectively while that for the all items index had a zero growth during the month.

Seasonal factor like the increase in production of selected goods in preparation for the holiday season pushed down the indices for all items; alcoholic beverages and tobacco; housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, health; and restaurant and miscellaneous goods and services relative to the expected trend. This seasonal factor however pushed up education index while it did not affect the indices for clothing and footwear; furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house; and recreation and culture.

  • National Capital Region (NCR)
  • Compared to last month, the seasonally adjusted CPI in NCR for alcoholic beverages and tobacco picked up 0.7 percent in October from 0.3 percent in September and the indices for non-food and education, 0.3 percent from zero growth and 0.2 percent. Meanwhile, upward adjustments in furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house index decelerated to 0.3 percent from 0.6 percent and transport index, 0.6 percent from 1.2 percent.

Higher production of selected goods generally pushed down the aggregate non-food index and transport index. On the contrary, this seasonal factor pulled up the index for furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house and education index while it did not affect the index for alcoholic beverages and tobacco.

  • Areas Outside the National Capital Region (AONCR)
  • The monthly change in the seasonally adjusted CPI for alcoholic beverages and tobacco in AONCR climbed 0.4 percent in October from 0.3 percent in September and for housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, 0.2 percent from 0.1 percent. The seasonal factor of bigger production of selected goods in preparation for the holiday season generally pulled down the indices for alcoholic beverages and tobacco; housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels; furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house; health; and restaurant and miscellaneous goods and services. However, the indices for recreation and culture and education were pushed down by this seasonal factor relative to the expected trend. That for clothing and footwear was not affected by this seasonal factor during the month.
