The annual growth of the Construction Materials Retail Price Index (CMRPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) continued to move at a slower pace of 0.9 percent in June 2017. It was pegged at 1.0 percent in May 2017 and 1.4 percent in June 2016. A negative annual rate was still observed in carpentry materials index at -0.7 percent. Moreover, slower annual mark-ups were registered in the indices of the following commodity groups:
- Electrical Materials (1.1%)
- Masonry Materials (0.2%)
- Plumbing Materials (1.8%)
- Tinsmithry Materials (0.5%)
Higher annual gains were however, noted in the indices of painting materials and related compounds at 0.9 percent and miscellaneous construction materials, 6.1 percent (see Table 2).
Month-on-Month
The CMRPI in NCR inched up by 0.1 percent in June 2017. A zero growth was observed in the previous month. The indices of painting materials and related compounds rose by 0.3 percent and miscellaneous construction materials, 1.0 percent. On the other hand, plumbing materials index went down by 0.1 percent. Other commodity groups posted zero growth during the month.
Upward price adjustments were noticed in paint and steel bars in June 2017. Meanwhile, G.I. pipe generally declined this month (see Table 3).
