The year-on-year change of the Construction Materials Retail Price Index (CMRPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) went up by 2.6 percent in June 2018 which was the same rate recorded in the previous month. In June 2017, the annual growth was lower at 0.9 percent. Higher annual increases were observed in the indices of carpentry materials at 3.9 percent; masonry materials, 3.3 percent; plumbing materials, 1.5 percent; and tinsmithry materials, 1.4 percent. Meanwhile, slower annual gains were registered in the indices of painting materials and related compounds at 1.3 percent and miscellaneous construction materials, 7.6 percent. For three consecutive months now, annual movement in electrical materials index remained at 1.3 percent (see Table 2).
Month-on-Month
The CMRPI in NCR inched up by 0.1 percent in June 2018, the same rate registered in the previous month. The indices of masonry materials rose by 0.2 percent; tinsmithry materials, 0.1 percent; and miscellaneous construction materials, 0.5 percent. On the other hand, the index of painting materials and related compound declined by 0.1 percent. Movement of carpentry materials index remained at 0.2 percent while other commodity groups exhibited zero growth during the month (see Table 3).
Upward price adjustments were noted in plywood, common wire nails, electrical switch, PVC pipe, cement, gravel, paints, corrugated G.I. sheets, and steel bars. Lower prices were, however, posted in electrical wires and sand paper during the month.
