The annual hike in the construction materials retail price index (CMRPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) further decelerated to 1.8 percent in July from 2.1 percent in June. The miscellaneous construction materials index continued to post a negative annual rate of 1.2 percent in July from -1.6 percent in June. Moreover, a slower annual gain was recorded in electrical materials index at 1.3 percent from 1.4 percent; masonry materials index, 5.9 percent from 12.7 percent; and tinsmithry materials index, 6.0 percent from 6.3 percent. On the other hand, the carpentry materials index advanced 1.1 percent from 0.6 percent; painting materials and related compounds index, 0.6 percent from 0.1 percent; and plumbing materials index, 1.6 percent from 1.4 percent.

Month-on-Month

The CMRPI in NCR went up by 0.2 percent in July from 0.1 percent in June. A higher monthly mark-up was noted in carpentry materials index at 0.4 percent in July from 0.3 percent in June; masonry materials index, 0.3 percent from -0.3 percent; and painting materials and related compounds index and miscellaneous construction materials indices, 0.4 percent from -0.7 percent and -0.2 percent, respectively. On the contrary, the index of tinsmithry materials dropped by 0.4 percent from 0.7 percent. The growth in the plumbing materials index remained at 0.2 percent while the electrical materials index had a zero growth from 0.2 percent.

Price increments were noted in plywood, nails, cement, hollow blocks, tiles, paints, sand paper and steel bars.
