Year-on-Year

The annual growth of the Construction Materials Retail Price Index (CMRPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) decelerated to 2.5 percent in July 2018 compared to its annual increment in June 2018 at 2.6 percent. The annual rate in July 2017 was pegged at 1.1 percent. Slower annual mark-ups were registered in the indices of the following commodity groups:

• Masonry Materials 1.9%;
• Painting Materials and Related Compounds 1.1%;
• Plumbing Materials 1.4%; and
• Miscellaneous Construction Materials 6.7%.

On the other hand, the indices of electrical materials and tinsmithry materials exhibited a higher annual gain of 1.7 percent while that of carpentry materials index remained at 3.9 percent (see Table 2).

Month-on-Month

Measured from a month ago level, the CMRPI in NCR inched up by 0.2 percent in July 2018. In the previous month, its rate was registered at 0.1 percent. The indices of electrical materials rose by 0.4 percent; plumbing materials, 0.1 percent; and tinsmithry materials, 0.3 percent. Meanwhile, either no change or less than 0.05 percent was noted in the month-on-month movements of other commodity groups (see Table 3).

Upward adjustments were observed in the prices of plywood, common wire nails, electrical wires, PVC pipe, gravel, hollow blocks, G.I. pipes and G.I. elbow during the period.
