Annual rate of CMRPI in NCR picks up in January 2019

The annual rate of Construction Materials Retail Price Index (CMRPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) went up by 2.5 percent in January 2019. Its annual change in December 2018 was posted at 2.4 percent and in January 2018, 2.0 percent. Higher annual increments were registered in the indices of electrical materials at 1.4 percent; masonry materials, 5.9 percent; and miscellaneous construction materials, 2.3 percent. On the other hand, the annual increase in plumbing materials index slowed down to 0.9 percent. Other commodity groups retained their previous month’s annual rates during the period (see Table 2).

CMRPI in NCR exhibits a slower monthly increase in January 2019

The increment of CMRPI in NCR slowed down to 0.2 percent in January 2019. In the previous month, its rate was recorded at 0.4 percent. The indices of carpentry materials moved up at a slower pace of 0.1 percent; electrical materials, 0.2 percent; masonry materials and miscellaneous construction materials, both at 0.5 percent. From a zero growth in the previous month, the indices of painting materials and related compounds rose by 0.3 percent and tinsmithry materials, 0.2 percent. In addition, plumbing materials index declined further by 0.05 percent from 0.03 percent (see Table 3).

Price hikes were seen in the prices of plywood, lumber, electrical wires, cement, gravel, sand, selected paints and corrugated G.I. sheets. These were, however, tempered by the lower prices of G.I. pipes.
