The annual growth of the retail price index of selected construction materials in the National Capital Region (NCR) was pegged at 5.0 percent in August, the same rate in July. The annual change posted in electrical materials index went up 7.9 percent in August from 7.8 percent in July; masonry materials index; 14.0 percent from 13.9 percent; and plumbing materials index, 2.1 percent from 1.9 percent. Slower annual increments were however noted in other commodity groups except in tinsmithry materials index whose annual rate dropped by -2.0 percent from -2.1 percent.

Month-on-Month

On a monthly basis, the retail price index of selected construction materials in NCR posted a zero growth in August from 0.5 percent in July due to the offsetting rates registered in the indices. From zero growth, the indices of plumbing materials and miscellaneous construction materials had negative rates at -0.2 percent and -0.5 percent, respectively. The add-on in masonry materials index slowed down to 0.3 percent from 6.7 percent. On the other hand, the adjustments in carpentry materials and tinsmithry materials indices inched up 0.1 percent and 0.2 percent, respectively from -0.1 percent. A zero growth was seen in the movements of electrical materials and painting materials and related compounds indices.

Price increases were generally observed in lumber, plywood, gravel, sand, paints and GI sheet. Meanwhile, prices of common wire nails, cement, hollow blocks and G.I. pipes went down during the month.
