The annual increment of the Construction Materials Retail Price Index (CMRPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) slowed down to 2.2 percent in November 2016. It picked up by 2.3 percent in October 2016 while it went down by 0.8 percent in November 2015. Higher annual mark-ups were observed in the indices of carpentry materials at 1.7 percent and masonry materials and plumbing materials, both at 3.0 percent. On the other hand, lower annual increases were registered in the indices of electrical materials at 1.3 percent; tinsmithry materials, 0.8 percent; and miscellaneous construction materials, 10.1 percent. That for painting materials and related compounds index remained at its previous month’s rate of 1.6 percent (Table 2).

On a monthly basis, the CMRPI in NCR moved up at a slower pace of 0.1 percent in November. Last month, it gained by 0.2 percent. The increment in electrical materials index decelerated to 0.1 percent. On the other hand, a higher uptick of 0.4 percent was noted in plumbing materials index. From a flat growth recorded last month, the index for masonry materials inched up 0.1 percent. The indices of carpentry materials; painting materials and related compounds; tinsmithry materials; and miscellaneous construction materials posted a flat growth during the month (Table 3).
Upward price adjustments were noticed in common wire nails, hinges, solid wires, cement, gravel, water closet and fitting, faucet and G.I. pipes. Price declines were however, seen in sand, hollow blocks, glazed tiles and corrugated G.I. sheets.
