The monthly change of the retail price index of selected construction materials in NCR went down to -0.2 percent in January from 0.4 percent in December. The index of electrical materials dropped by -0.3 percent in January from 0.2 percent in December, masonry materials index, -1.4 percent from 0.3 percent; painting materials and related compounds index, -0.4 percent from 0.1 percent; and tinsmithry materials index, -2.3 percent from zero growth. In addition, a slower monthly rate was noted in plumbing materials at 0.4 percent from 0.6 percent.
Price reductions were noted in selected electrical wires and wiring devices, cement, paints and related compounds, sand paper and GI sheet. On the other hand, price hikes were seen in common wire nails and plain round steel bars.

The annual increase of the retail price index of selected construction materials in NCR decelerated to 3.6 percent in January from 4.1 percent in December. The annual gain in electrical materials index eased to 1.7 percent in January from 2.5 percent in December; masonry materials, 0.4 percent from 1.8 percent; and painting materials and related compounds, 5.3 percent from 6.4 percent. The index of tinsmithry materials dropped by -1.3 percent from 1.3 percent while the rest of the commodity groups exhibited higher annual growth rates during the month in review.
