The annual increment of the construction materials retail price index (CMRPI) in the National Capital Region eased to 4.0 percent in December from 4.2 percent in November. An annual decline of 2.0 percent in December from -2.7 percent in November was posted in tinsmithry materials index. Moreover, a slowdown in the annual growth was also recorded in carpentry materials index at 1.1 percent in December from 1.2 percent in November; masonry materials index, 11.0 percent from 12.6 percent; painting materials and related compounds index, 0.8 percent from 0.9 percent; and miscellaneous construction materials index, 5.1 percent from 7.4 percent. The rest of the commodity groups had higher annual rates.
The annual average adjustment of the CMRPI for the year 2012 in NCR went up at a slower rate of 3.8 percent from 4.3 percent in 2011. The annual average growth of carpentry materials index decelerated to 2.0 percent in 2012 from 6.2 percent in 2011; painting materials and related compounds index, 2.5 percent from 4.7 percent; and plumbing materials index, 2.2 percent from 4.0 percent. Meanwhile, annual average rate in electrical materials index rose 5.3 percent from 4.5 percent; masonry materials index, 7.2 percent from 0.5 percent; and miscellaneous construction materials index, 11.8 percent from 4.0 percent.

The monthly uptick in CMRPI in NCR decelerated to 0.1 percent in December from 0.2 percent in November. Monthly adjustment in masonry materials index decreased by 1.1 percent in December from 1.0 percent in November. The rest of the commodity groups had higher monthly increases while carpentry and painting materials and related compounds indices registered zero growth.
Price cuts were noted in cement, gravel and sand. On the other hand, price hikes were seen in selected electrical wires and wiring devices, plumbing and tinsmithry materials.
