On an annual basis, the Construction Materials Retail Price Index (CMRPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) moved up 2.0 percent in September 2016. Last month, it increased by 1.9 percent while in September 2015, it went down by 0.4 percent. Higher annual mark ups were observed in the indices of plumbing materials at 2.6 percent and miscellaneous construction materials, 7.6 percent. Meanwhile, the annual gain in carpentry materials index decelerated to 1.7 percent; electrical materials index, 1.3 percent; masonry materials index, 3.0 percent; painting materials and related compounds index, 1.4 percent; and tinsmithry materials index, 0.6 percent (Table 2).

The CMRPI in NCR declined by 0.1 percent in September 2016 after it posted a 0.4 percent growth last month. The tinsmithry materials index further dropped by 0.4 percent. Moreover, downward adjustments were recorded in the indices of carpentry materials and masonry materials at -0.2 percent. The index for painting materials and related compounds likewise went down by 0.1 percent. On the other hand, the increments in the indices of plumbing materials and miscellaneous construction materials slowed down to 0.4 percent and 0.1 percent, respectively. That for electrical materials index had a flat growth during the month (Table 3).
Price reductions were observed in plywood, common wire nails, sand, gravel, hollow blocks, paints and G.I. sheets. On the contrary, higher prices were noted in sanitary fixtures and steel bars.
