The annual increase of Construction Materials Retail Price Index (CMRPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) was posted at 2.0 percent in September 2018. It was the same rate recorded in the previous month while the annual growth in September 2017 was recorded at 1.5 percent. Higher annual increment of 0.7 percent was registered in the index of painting materials and related compounds. Meanwhile, slower annual gains were recorded in the indices of carpentry materials at 3.2 percent; masonry materials, 1.5 percent; plumbing materials, 1.4 percent; and miscellaneous construction materials, 4.1 percent. Annual changes in the indices of electrical materials remained at 1.2 percent and tinsmithry materials, 1.6 percent (see Table 2).
Month-on-Month
Measured from a month ago level, the CMRPI in NCR rose by 0.2 percent in September 2018. A minimal decrease of 0.03 percent was recorded in the previous month. The indices of electrical materials and painting materials and related compounds went up by 0.3 percent during the period. Moreover, the indices of carpentry materials and miscellaneous construction materials inched up by 0.1 percent. The indices of masonry materials slightly increased by 0.021 percent and tinsmithry materials, 0.017 percent. Meanwhile, no change was noted in the month-on-month movement in plumbing materials index (see Table 3).
Higher prices during the month were observed in plywood, common wire nails, electrical wires, conduit and PVC pipes, paints, sand paper, G.I. corrugated sheets and steel bars.
