The month-on-month growth rate of the retail prices of selected construction materials in NCR went up to 3.1 percent in May from 1.5 in April. Increments in the prices of plumbing materials were higher at 0.8 percent in May from 0.4 percent in April; tinsmithry materials, 4.5 percent from 0.3 percent; and miscellaneous construction materials, 12.3 percent from 2.3 percent. The rest of the commodity groups however posted slower monthly growth rates.
Upward price adjustments were noted in GI pipes and elbow, corrugated GI sheets and plain round steel bars.

The annual growth rate of the retail prices of selected construction materials in NCR further picked up to 10.1 percent in May from 7.1 percent in April. All the commodity groups registered higher annual price hikes except in masonry materials index whose annual growth rate decelerated to 5.7 percent from 5.8 percent. The annual growth rate for carpentry materials moved up to 3.1 percent in May from 2.8 percent in April; electrical materials; 8.1 percent from7.5 percent; painting materials and related compounds; 4.8 percent from 4.3 percent; plumbing materials; 2.6 percent from 2.1 percent; tinsmithry materials, 5.2 percent from 1.3 percent; and miscellaneous construction materials, 37.6 percent from 23.1 percent.
