The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) grants clearance for the conduct of the 2023 Census of Philippine Business and Industry (CPBI).

This statistical activity is conducted every five years by the PSA to collect and generate information on the levels, structure, performance, and trends of economic activities within establishment in the country. Furthermore, it will serve as benchmark information for measuring and comparing national, regional and provincial economic growth.

Specifically, the objectives of the 2023 CPBI include:

    a. Collect and generate information on employment, revenue, expenses, capital expenditures, and total assets of the establishments by industry and region
    b. Generate indicators such as profitability, and other indicators necessary for the evaluation of the performance of establishment by industry at the national and regional levels
    c. Generate information on micro, small, and medium establishments/enterprises (MSME) based on employment grouping
    d. Generate gender disaggregated statistics on employment in establishments
    e. Generate statistics on the research and development employment, expenditures, and capitalization of establishments
    f. Provide updates in the Statistical Business Register (SBR) on basic information for the sample establishments covered in the CPBI 

A total of PhP 253.6 million will be utilized to interview about 85,000 establishments nationwide, approximately 79,000 of which are from formal establishments and 6,000 from informal establishments. The distribution of the questionnaires is set to start in April 2024.

Moreover, the preliminary results of the 2023 CPBI are expected to be available on the PSA website in March 2025, while the final results is targeted to be released in August 2025. In addition, the national and regional data dissemination is scheduled to be held in December 2025.

This statistical activity was reviewed and cleared for conduct under the Statistical Survey Review and Clearance System (SSRCS), a mechanism being implemented by the PSA by virtue of Rule 28 of Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of Republic Act (RA) No. 10625 to:

    a. Ensure sound design for data collection
    b. Minimize the burden placed upon respondents 
    c. Effect economy in statistical data collection 
    d. Eliminate unnecessary duplication of statistical data collection efforts 
    e. Achieve better coordination of government statistical activities

In line with this, the PSA enjoins all business establishments to participate in the 2023 CPBI by providing truthful information.
