- Producer Price Index declines at a slower pace in September 2016
The Producer Price Index (PPI, 2000=100) for manufacturing reflected a decrease of 3.8 percent in September 2016, showing an improvement from the negative 7.9 percent during the same period last year. Four of the 14 major sectors significantly contributed to the decline led by furniture and fixtures, registering a double-digit decrease of 19.3 percent. Other sectors that posted double-digit decrements were also observed in the following: machinery except electrical (-16.5%), petroleum products (-11.4%) and leather products (-10.5%). On the other hand, miscellaneous manufactures (5.6%) led the six sectors that posted increases. Refer to Tables 1 and A-1.
On a monthly basis, the PPI advanced 0.9 percent in September from negative 0.5 percent a month earlier. Fifteen sectors pulled up the overall month-on-month performance of the PPI led by leather products (7.0%). On the other hand, three major sectors posted decrements while two sectors showed flat growths. Refer to Tables 1 and A-2.

Starting with January 2013 reference month, the PPI utilizes the 2009 Philippine Standard Industrial Classification (PSIC) to classify sectors and industries. Selected industry classes of the 2009 PSIC were grouped to form the 20 industry groupings of the 2016 PPS. These are presented in the table below.
