- Producer Price Index (PPI) increases by nearly two digits
Producer Price Index (PPI) for the manufacturing industry posted a year-on-year increase of 9.8 percent in October 2006. Monthly price increases were noted in sixteen (16) major sectors, with electrical machinery posting the highest increase of 63.3 percent. This was followed by five (5) other major sectors that exhibited two-digit price increases, namely: leather products, footwear and wearing apparel, machinery excluding electrical, rubber products and non-metallic mineral products. Refer to Tables 1 and 1-A.
On a monthly basis, PPI declined by 0.3 percent in October 2006. This was brought about by the decreases in twelve (12) major sectors, led by petroleum products with 4.3 percent decline. Refer to Tables 1 and 1-B.

Weights for the PPI are based from the results of the 2003 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI) for manufacturing establishments with average total employment (ATE) of 20 and over.
Data of non-responding sample establishments are estimated based on previous records and other available sources. Revisions to the preliminary estimates are done upon receipt of actual reports of late respondents.
