- Producer Price Index decelerates in December 2015
The Producer Price Index (PPI, 2000=100) for manufacturing slid by 7.2 percent in December 2015. During the same period in 2014, PPI declined by 1.4 percent. The downtrend can be attributed to the significant decrements of the heavily weighted major sectors namely: electrical machinery (-14.7%), basic metals (-12.0%) and petroleum products (-10.2%). The double-digit decreases posted by furniture and fixtures (-26.5%) and wood and wood products (-25.0%) also contributed to the overall negative performance of the December 2015 PPI. On the other hand, eight of the twenty major sectors registered increases led by machinery except electrical (3.7%). Refer to Tables 1 and A-1.
On a monthly basis, the PPI likewise fell by 0.3 percent in December 2015 from a 0.5 percent increase a month earlier. This was mainly due to the reduction in the prices of petroleum products (-7.4%). Moreover, five major sectors remained flat while ten major sectors posted increases. Refer to Tables 1 and A-2.

- Introduction
- Method of Index Computation
- Industry Coverage
Starting with January 2013 reference month, the PPI utilizes the 2009 Philippine Standard Industry Classification (PSIC) to classify sectors and industries. Selected industry classes of the 2009 PSIC were grouped to form the 20 industry groupings of the 2014 PPS. These are presented in the table below.
