· Producer Price Index (PPI) increases slightly
The Producer Price Index (PPI) for the manufacturing industry recorded a slower growth of 1.5 percent in April 2007 compared to the year-ago figure. This was brought about by the single-digit increses in nine (9) major sectors. Two major sectors, publishing and printing and footwear and wearing apparel registered two-digit increases on a Year-on-year basis. Refer to Tables 1 and 1-A.
However, PPI on a month-on-month comparison slightly went down by 0.2 percent in April 2007. This was due to the price decreases observed in eight (8) major sectors, namely: basic metals, electrical machinery, transport equipment, non-metallic mineral products, paper and paper products, furniture and fixtures, chemical products and fabricated metal products. Refer to Tables 1 and 1-B.
· Response Rate
The response rate for April 2007 is 92.8 percent, which corresponds to the retrieval of 283 sample establishments reports. Refer to Table 2.

· Technical Notes
Weights for the PPI are based from the results of the 2003 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI) for manufacturing establishments with average total employment (ATE) of 20 and over.
Data of non-responding sample establishments are estimated based on previous records and other available sources. Revisions to the preliminary estimates are done upon receipt of actual reports of late respondents.
