  • The population of Region X (Northern Mindanao) as of August 1, 2015 was 4,689,302 based on the 2015 Census of Population (POPCEN 2015).

  • The 2015 population of the region is higher by 391,979 compared with the population of 4.30 million in 2010, and by 1.18 million compared with the population of 3.51 million in 2000. Refer to Table 1.
  • The population of Region X increased by 1.68 percent annually, on average, during the period 2010 to 2015. By comparison, the rate at which the region’s population grew during the period 2000 to 2010 was higher at 2.06 percent. See Table 2.

  • Among the five provinces comprising the region, Bukidnon had the biggest population in 2015 with 1.42 million. It was followed by Misamis Oriental (excluding Cagayan de Oro City) with 889 thousand, Lanao del Norte (excluding Iligan City) with 676 thousand, and Misamis Occidental with 602 thousand. Camiguin had the smallest population with 88 thousand. Refer to Table 3.
  • The region has two highly urbanized cities (HUCs). Cagayan de Oro City posted a population of 676 thousand while Iligan City had a population of 343 thousand.
  • The total population of Region X accounted for about 4.6 percent of the Philippine population in 2015.

  • Lanao del Norte (excluding Iligan City) was the fastest growing province in the region with an average annual population growth rate (PGR) of 2.05 percent during the period 2010 to 2015. It was followed by Misamis Oriental (excluding Cagayan de Oro City) with 1.68 percent, Bukidnon (1.64 percent), and Misamis Occidental (1.13 percent). Camiguin posted the lowest provincial PGR of 1.04 percent. See Table 4.
  • Cagayan de Oro City posted a PGR of 2.23 percent while Iligan City had a PGR of 1.14 percent.

  • Region X is composed of two highly urbanized cities, seven component cities, 84 municipalities, and 2,022 barangays.
  • Among the cities (excluding Cagayan de Oro City and Iligan City) and municipalities in the region, the largest in terms of population size is the City of Valencia, Bukidnon with 192,993 persons. It was followed by the City of Malaybalay, Bukidnon (174,625) and Ozamis City, Misamis Occidental (141,828). Refer to Table 5.

  • Guinsiliban in Camiguin is the least populous city/municipality in Region X with 6,281 persons. It was followed by two municipalities in Misamis Oriental - Binuangan (7,515) and Sugbongcogon (9,226). See Table 6.

  • Of the 2,022 barangays in Region X, the largest in terms of population size is Carmen in Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental with 70,492 persons. It was followed by Lapasan in Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental (43,611) and Poblacion in the City of Valencia, Bukidnon (35,793). The rest of the top ten most populous barangays in the region are located in Cagayan de Oro City and Iligan City. Refer to Table 7.
