  • Year-on-Year

    On an annual basis, the Construction Materials Wholesale Price Index (CMWPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) picked up 0.8 percent in January 2016. Last month, it inched up by 0.1 percent while in January 2015, it decreased by 1.1 percent. Higher annual increments were registered in the following indices: sand and gravel, 3.4 percent; plywood, 2.5 percent; electrical works, 2.4 percent; and plumbing fixtures and accessories, 4.9 percent. Moreover, the indices of cement and reinforcing steel correspondingly moved up by 0.6 percent and 3.4 percent compared to negative annual rates recorded a month ago. Slower annual increases were, however, seen in the indices of hardware at 1.4 percent; tileworks, 0.3 percent; and doors, jambs, and steel casement, 0.4 percent. The annual adjustment in G.I. sheet index dropped by 2.4 percent; structural steel index, -3.3 percent; painting works index, -0.4 percent; PVC pipes index, -0.2 percent; and fuels and lubricants index, -6.2 percent. The rest of the commodity groups posted a zero growth with the index of concrete products retaining its last month’s rate of 1.9 percent (Table 2).

  • Month-on-Month

    The CMWPI in NCR had a zero growth in January 2016 due to the mixed movements of the commodity groups. Last month, it declined by 0.5 percent. From a zero growth in December 2015, the indices of sand and gravel gained by 1.5 percent; cement, 0.2 percent; plywood, 0.3 percent; reinforcing steel, 4.1 percent; electrical works, 0.9 percent; and plumbing fixtures and accessories, 1.4 percent. Meanwhile, the index for hardware went down by 0.5 percent; lumber index, -0.6 percent; G.I. sheets index, -2.7 percent; structural steel index, -3.6 percent; tileworks index, -0.6 percent; painting works index, -0.8 percent; PVC pipes index, -1.4 percent; and fuels and lubricants index, -4.3 percent. No price movement was recorded in the rest of the commodity groups (Table 3).

    Higher prices were seen in sand, gravel, cement, steel bars and some plumbing fixtures. On the contrary, gasoline, diesel, fuel oil, G.I. sheets, flat bars, steel plates and PVC pipes were priced lower during the month.
