The Construction Materials Wholesale Price Index (CMWPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) posted a negative rate of -1.4 percent in October from 1.5 percent in September. The continuous downward adjustments in the corresponding prices of plywood and fuels and lubricants at -1.1 percent and -5.9 percent brought about the downtrend. Moreover, price reductions were observed in the following commodity groups: cement (-0.2 % from 3.0%); lumber (-0.5% from 2.6%); paints (-0.1% from 0.8%); reinforcing steel (-3.2% from 2.1%); and structural steel (-2.8% from 2.9%). Slower price increase was also noticed in G.I. sheets. On the other hand, price increments were higher in PVC pipes, exterior electrical equipment/supplies, interior electrical fixtures and devices, electrical rough-in materials and uPVC water pipes. Price hike in hardware was at its last monthÒ³ rate of 0.9 percent while the other commodity groups generally remained stable as they recorded a zero growth this month.

The annual growth rate of the CMWPI in NCR eased to 21.6 percent in October from 23.5 percent in September. Slower annual gains were noted in the prices of cement, lumber, plywood, fuels and lubricants, paints, reinforcing steel and structural steel. Meanwhile, annual increments were higher in the prices of hardware, PVC pipes, G.I. sheets, exterior electrical equipment/supplies, interior electrical fixtures and devices, electrical rough-in materials and uPVC water pipes. Annual price movements for the rest of the commodity groups remained at their previous month's rates while blasting materials and machinery and equipment rental continued to register a zero growth rate.

Revisions of the monthly series from December 2007 to May 2008 were made due to the updates made by the official source on machinery and equipment rental rates last June 25, 2008.
