The monthly growth rate of the Construction Materials Wholesale Price Index (CMWPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) recorded a zero growth in January from -0.4 percent in December as prices of glass and glass products, metal pipes, PVC pipes, plumbing fixtures, aluminum and other metal products, blasting materials, machinery and equipment rental and UPVC water pipes remained stable during the month. From zero growth, price reductions were noted in the following commodity groups: sand, stone and gravel, -0.7 percent; asphalt, -1.7 percent; reinforcing steel, -1.9 percent; and structural steel, -1.6 percent. A price decline was also seen in fuels and lubricants at -8.7 percent from -14.8 percent. On the other hand, price gains for the rest of the commodity groups were higher during the month.

The annual wholesale price increase of selected construction materials in NCR slowed to 18.3 percent in January from 20.0 percent in December. This can be attributed to an annual price reduction in fuels and lubricants at -20.1 percent in January from -10.4 percent in December. Moreover, annual price increments were slower in sand, stone and gravel, wood products, asphalt, metal pipes, reinforcing steel, structural steel, interior electrical fixtures and devices, tileworks and electrical rough-in materials. On the other hand, annual gains were faster in the prices of cement, lumber, plywood, hardware, concrete products, G.I. sheets and exterior electrical equipment/supplies. The rest of the commodity groups retained their previous monthÒ³ annual growth rates while price movements for blasting materials and machinery and transport equipment rental remained stable as they registered a zero growth in January.
