The volume of chicken egg production in July to September 2023 was recorded at 185.26 thousand metric tons. This indicates an annual increase of 4.7 percent from its previous year’s same quarter output of 176.96 thousand metric tons. (Figure 1)

CALABARZON remains as the top producer of chicken egg with 58.53 thousand metric tons or 31.6 percent share to the total chicken egg production during the quarter. Completing the top five regions with the highest volume of chicken egg production this quarter were the following:

a.    Central Luzon, 34.11 thousand metric tons; 
b.    Northern Mindanao, 20.14 thousand metric tons; 
c.    Central Visayas, 18.96 thousand metric tons;and 
d.    Western Visayas, 10.55 thousand metric tons.

These regions accounted for 76.8 percent of the country’s total chicken egg production during the quarter.

Relative to their outputs in the same quarter of 2022, 10 regions posted increases in production during the quarter. In terms of level, CALABARZON posted the highest annual increase of 3.91 thousand metric tons, from 54.62 thousand metric tons in the same period of the previous year to 58.53 thousand metric tons in this quarter.

As of 30 September 2023, the country’s total chicken laying flock was estimated at 71.18 million birds. This represents an increase of 5.4 percent from the inventory level of 67.51 million birds in the same period of the previous year. The layer chicken inventory recorded an increase of 7.3 percent, while native/improved chicken inventory grew by 1.8 percent. Of the total laying flock, layer chicken shared 66.9 percent, while the remaining 33.1 percent were native/improved chicken. (Figure 2)

 

 

CALABARZON recorded the highest laying flock population of 16.67 million birds during the period. This was followed by Central Luzon and Northern Mindanao with corresponding inventories of 11.24 million birds and 9.77 million birds. These three regions shared 52.9 percent to the country’s total chicken laying flock population as of 30 September 2023. (Figure 3)

The average farmgate price of chicken egg was quoted at PhP 7.45 per piece for this quarter, which was 15.3 percent higher than the previous year’s same quarter average farmgate price of PhP 6.46 per piece. (Figure 4)

In the third quarter of 2023, the highest average farmgate price was recorded in September at PhP 7.56 per piece, while the lowest average farmgate price was observed in July at PhP 7.37 per piece.
