The volume of chicken egg production in July to September 2018 was at 133.72 thousand metric tons or an equivalent increase of 9.94 percent relative to its production level in the same period of 2017. An upward trend was observed from Q3 2016 to Q3 2018 with the highest increase recorded in Q3 2018. (Table 1)
CALABARZON, the top producing region reached 40.04 thousand metric tons of chicken egg production or an increase of 7.99 percent compared with its level in the previous year. It contributed 29.94 percent share to the country’s total chicken egg production. The second top producer was Central Luzon with 26.52 thousand metric tons, and the third highest producer was Central Visayas with 13.02 thousand metric tons. More than half of the volume of chicken egg was produced in these regions.
As of 1 October 2018, laying flock inventory of native/improved chicken was registered at 22.82 million birds or 6.32 percent increase compared to the stocks in the previous year. Similarly, laying flock inventory of foreign strain layers was noted at 31.80 million birds, up by 8.80 percent from its 2017 count. (Table 2)
The average farmgate price of chicken egg in commercial farms during the period July to September 2018 was PhP 4.43 per piece. This price declined by 3.84 percent from the 2017 price level. The highest farmgate price of chicken egg was noted in August at PhP 4.44 per piece. (Table 3)
TECHNICAL NOTES
This Chicken Egg Situation Report presents the chicken egg industry in terms of volume of production, inventory by chicken type and average farmgate price. The report was prepared to serve as ready reference for PSA’s various clients and stakeholders in the agriculture sector. It is released quarterly on January, May, August and November every year.
Concepts and Definitions
Volume of Production refers to the volume of chicken egg disposed from locally-raised chicken including those table eggs which were shipped-out to other region/province.
Inventory refers to the actual number of chicken layers and native chicken present in the farm as of a specific reference date.
Farmgate Price refers to the price received by farmers, livestock and poultry raisers for the sale of their produce at the first point of sale net of freight.
