The total volume of chicken egg production in April to June 2019 was 141.45 thousand metric tons. This was 7.9 percent higher compared with the previous year’s level of 131.10 thousand metric tons.

Increases in chicken egg production were recorded in all regions, except for SOCCSKSARGEN, Caraga and ARMM. Zamboanga Peninsula, with chicken egg production of 4.01 thousand metric tons, recorded the highest increase of 35.2 percent from the 2.96 thousand metric tons in April to June 2018.

CALABARZON, Central Luzon and Northern Mindanao were the top three chicken egg producing regions during the period. CALABARZON was the top producer at 41.40 thousand metric tons, accounting for 29.3 percent of the total chicken egg production. Central Luzon and Northern Mindanao ranked second and third with corresponding shares of 20.4 percent and 9.3 percent. These three regions contributed 58.8 percent to the total chicken egg produced in April to June 2019. (Table 1)

As of 01 July 2019, adult female inventory of native/improved chicken was estimated at 21.44 million birds or 5.3 percent lower compared with the previous year’s stocks of 22.64 million birds. On the other hand, laying flock inventory of foreign strain layers increased by 9.2 percent, from 31.18 million birds in 2018 to 34.05 million birds in 2019. (Table 2)

The average farmgate price of chicken egg in commercial farms from April to June 2019 was recorded at PhP4.65 per piece. This was 7.2 percent higher than the average price of PhP4.34 per piece in 2018. During the reference quarter, the highest farmgate price was noted in June at PhP4.77 per piece. (Table 3)

TECHNICAL NOTES

This Chicken Egg Situation Report presents the chicken egg industry in terms of volume of production, inventory by type of laying flock and average farmgate price.

The report was prepared to serve as ready reference for PSA’s various clients and stakeholders in the agriculture sector. It is released quarterly in January, May, August and November every year.

Concepts and Definitions
Volume of production
refers to the volume of chicken egg disposed from locally-raised chicken including those table eggs which were shipped out to other region/province.

Inventory refers to the actual number of chicken layers and native chicken present in the farm as of a specific reference date.

Farmgate price refers to the price received by raisers for their produce at the location of farm. Thus, the marketing costs such as the transport and other marketing cost (if any) incurred in selling the produce are not included in the farmgate prices.
