p align="justify"bTotal population rose to 301,926 persons/b/p p align="justify"The City of Baguio registered a total population of 301,926 persons as of August 1, 2007. This registered an increase of 49,540 persons over the total population of 252,386 persons in 2000 (with May 1, 2000 as reference date), giving the city an annual population growth rate of 2.50 percent./p p align="justify"The number of households rose to 72,568 or an increase of 20,266 households over the 2000 figure. The average household size decreased from 4.8 persons in 2000 to 4.1 persons in 2007./p p align="justify"bBarangay Irisan was the largest in terms of population size /b/p p align="justify"Baguio City, considered as one of the highly urbanized cities of the country, composed of 129 barangays. Barangay Irisan had the largest population with 24,064 persons or eight percent of the total population of the entire city. This was followed by barangay Asin Road with 3.7 percent and barangay Fairview Village with 3.0 percent./p p align="center" /p p align="justify"bMore females than males/b/p p align="justify"Of the total household population of Baguio City, there were 145,030 males and 153,497 females, which resulted to a sex ratio of 94 males for every 100 females. In 2000, the sex ratio was 97 males for every 100 females./p p align="justify"bMedian age was 22 years in 2007/b/p p align="justify"The median age of the household population in Baguio City was recorded at 22 years in 2007. This means that half of the household population were below 22 years old. The median age in 2000 was 21 years./p p align="justify"The proportion of persons under 15 years old to total household population was 28.7 percent, wherein the population for age group 0 to 4 years noted to have the highest share with 10.1 percent./p p align="center" /p p align="justify"The age-sex structure of the household population of the city deviated from the usual pyramid shape. It shows a protrusion on the age groups 15 to 19 years and 20 to 24 years. These age groups recorded the highest proportions at 13.4 percent for 15 to 19 years and 12.6 percent for 20 to 24 years./p p align="justify"There were more males than females in the age brackets 0 to 14 years. On the other hand, there were more females than males in the age brackets 15 years old and over./p p align="justify"bAlmost two-thirds were in the voting-age population/b/p p align="justify"Almost two out of three (63.8 percent) of the household population belonged to voting-age population (18 years and over). This was higher by 4.0 percentage points than the proportion of voting-age population (59.8 percent) reported in 2000. The proportion of females (52.4 percent) to the voting-age population was slightly higher than that of the males (47.6 percent) in 2007./p p align="justify"bDependency ratio down to 47/b/p p align="justify"The proportion of household population belonging to age group 0 to 14 years was 28.7 percent while the older group (65 years and over) posted a share of 3.2 percent. The working-age population (15 to 64 years) accounted for 68.1 percent of the household population./p p align="justify"The overall dependency ratio of Baguio City in 2007 was 46.8. This means that for every 100 persons aged 15 to 64 years, there were about 47 dependents (42 young dependents and five old dependents). The dependency ratio in 2007 was lower compared to the 2000 figure of 57.3./p p align="justify"bProportion of single persons increased/b/p p align="justify"In 2007, almost half (49.3 percent) of the household population 10 years old and over were single, while 43.3 percent were married. Compared with the 2000 figures, proportion of single persons was lower at 47.8 percent, while married persons was higher at 44.9 percent. The rest (7.4 percent) of the household population 10 years old and over were either widowed, divorced/separated, had common-law/live-in arrangement, or had unknown marital status in 2007./p p align="justify"There was higher proportion of females than males in the different marital arrangements. The most noticeable was among widowed where the proportion of females recorded at 80.8 percent./p p align="justify"bMore females pursued higher levels of education /b/p p align="justify"Of the household population five years old and over, 18.7 percent attended or completed elementary education, 31.1 percent reached or completed high school education, 18.4 percent were college undergraduates, 19.9 percent were academic degree holders, and 0.5 percent had post baccalaureate courses./p p align="justify"There were more females than males in the city who were academic degree holders (57.0 percent) and with post baccalaureate courses (59.0 percent)./p p align="justify"Among the household population 5 to 24 years old, about three in four persons (72.2 percent) attended school at anytime during School Year 2007 to 2008. There were more females (50.3 percent) than males (49.7 percent) who attended school during School Year 2007 to 2008./p p align="justify"bOne household per occupied housing unit/b/p p align="justify"A total of 72,568 households resided in 69,685 housing units in Baguio City. This translated to a ratio of 104 households for every 100 occupied housing units, or a ratio of 4.3 persons per occupied housing unit. In 2000, the ratio of households to occupied housing units was at 102 households for every 100 occupied housing units or 4.9 persons per occupied housing units./p p align="justify"bMajority of occupied housing units with strong materials of roofs /b/p p align="justify"In Baguio City, nine in ten (90.1 percent) of the occupied housing units had roofs made of galvanized iron/aluminum. Compared to the 2000 figure, a higher proportion (94.0 percent) of occupied housing units with roofs made of galvanized iron/aluminum was recorded. On the other hand, occupied housing units with roofs made of tile/concrete/clay tile, from 2.4 percent in 2000 increased to 4.4 percent in 2007. The proportion of occupied housing units with outer walls made of concrete/brick/stone was 49.9 percent in 2007, indicating an increase of 8.5 percentage points from the 2000 figure (41.4 percent)./p p align="justify" /p table border="0" width="100%" tbody tr td colspan="80" /td td align="middle" nowrap="nowrap"(Sgd.) bCARMELITA N.
