p align="JUSTIFY"bPopulation increased to 701,664 persons/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"The population of Capiz was 701,664 persons as of August 1, 2007, based on the 2007 Census of Population. This figure was higher by 47,508 persons over the population count of 654,156 persons in 2000. The recent population count for the province translated to an annual population growth rate (PGR) of 0.97 percent for the period 2000 to 2007, slightly lower than the 1.00 percent annual PGR registered for the period 1995 to 2000./p p align="JUSTIFY"The number of households reached 144,525, or 15,956 households more than the 2000 figure. The average household size in 2007 was 4.8 persons, slightly lower than the average household size of 5.1 persons recorded in 2000./p p align="JUSTIFY"bRoxas City topped in terms of population size/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Among the lone city and 16 municipalities in Capiz, Roxas City, the provincial capital, was the most populous with 21.1 percent of the provincial total population. It was followed by the municipalities of Tapaz (6.7 percent), Dumarao (6.1 percent), Panay (6.0 percent), Pontevedra (6.0 percent), Pilar (5.8 percent), Panitan (5.5 percent), Mambusao (5.3 percent), and Ma-ayon (5.1 percent). The rest of the municipalities had a share of less than 5.0 percent each./p p align="center"img alt="Figure 1" src="http://www.census.gov.ph/data/pressrelease/2010/pr1084f1.gif" //p p align="JUSTIFY"bMales continued to outnumber females/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Of the 700,807 household population of Capiz, 51.1 percent were males and 48.9 percent were females, or a sex ratio of 105 males for every 100 females. This was higher than the sex ratio of 101 males per 100 females posted in 2000./p p align="JUSTIFY"bMedian age was 19 years/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"The household population of Capiz had a median age of 19 years, which means that half of the household population were below 19 years old. The median age for the province in 2007 was one year lower than the median age of 20 years in 2000./p p align="JUSTIFY"The proportion to total household population of persons under 15 years old was 38.6 percent. Children aged 10 to 14 years had the highest share of 13.1 percent, followed closely by those in age groups 0 to 4 years (12.8 percent) and 5 to 9 years (12.7 percent)./p p align="center"img alt="Figure 2" src="http://www.census.gov.ph/data/pressrelease/2010/pr1084f2.gif" //p p align="JUSTIFY"There were more males than females in age groups 0 to 49 years. On the other hand, females outnumbered males in the older age groups (50 years and over)./p p align="JUSTIFY"bMore males in the voting-age population/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"In 2007, about 54 percent of the household population were in the voting age group (18 years old and over). This was slightly lower than the voting-age population recorded in 2000 which was 55.9 percent. Males (51.0 percent) outnumbered females (49.0 percent) in the distribution of voting-age population by sex./p p align="JUSTIFY"bOverall dependency ratio increased to 78 person per 100 working-age population/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"The proportion of household population in the working age group (15 to 64 years) was 56.1 percent, young dependents (0 to 14 years) consisted 38.6 percent, while old dependents (65 years and over) comprised 5.3 percent./p p align="JUSTIFY"The overall dependency ratio in 2007 was 78, which implies that there were 78 dependents (69 young dependents and 9 old dependents) for every 100 persons in the working age group. This was higher than the overall dependency ratio reported in 2000 at 72 dependents (64 young dependents and 8 old dependents) per 100 persons aged 15 to 64 years./p p align="JUSTIFY"bMore never-married males than females/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Less than half (43.8 percent) of the household population 10 years old and over in 2007 were married while 47.5 percent were never married. The rest of the population was either widowed (4.9 percent), divorced/separated (0.6 percent), had common law/live-in marital arrangement (3.1 percent), or had unknown marital status (0.1 percent). Among never-married persons, males accounted for 55.5 percent while females comprised 44.5 percent. Females outnumbered males in the rest of the categories for marital status./p p align="JUSTIFY"bMore females pursued higher levels of education than males/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Of the household population 5 years old and over, 43.5 percent had attended or finished elementary education, 29.3 percent had reached or completed high school, while 6.0 percent were college undergraduates. The proportion of academic degree holders, meanwhile, increased from 4.0 percent in 2000 to 7.4 percent in 2007./p p align="JUSTIFY"More females than males pursued higher levels of education as 57.1 percent of females were reported to have academic degrees and 65.3 percent had taken post baccalaureate courses./p p align="JUSTIFY"Among household population 5 to 24 years old, about seven in every ten (69.7 percent) had attended school at anytime during School Year 2007 to 2008. Of the total females aged 5 to 24 years, 71.8 percent had attended school at anytime during the said school year. School attendance for males, meanwhile, was 67.7 percent of the total males aged 5 to 24 years./p p align="JUSTIFY"bNumber of occupied housing units increased to 143,717/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"From a total of 127,150 occupied housing units in 2000, the number of occupied housing units rose to 143,717 in 2007, or an increase of 13.0 percent. A ratio of 101 households per 100 occupied housing units was reported in 2007, the same ratio reported in 2000. In terms of the number of occupants per occupied housing unit, a ratio of 4.9 persons per occupied housing unit was computed in 2007. This was lower compared to the ratio of 5.1 persons per occupied housing unit in 2000./p p align="JUSTIFY"bMajority of occupied housing units had light materials for outer walls but strong materials for roofs/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Majority of housing units had outer walls made of bamboo/sawali/cogon/nipa (56.8 percent). This was followed by those with outer walls made of concrete/brick/stone (21.2 percent) and half concrete/brick/stone and half wood (17.0 percent)./p p align="JUSTIFY"Meanwhile, about 7 in every 10 (71.4 percent) occupied housing units in 2007 had roofs made of galvanized iron/aluminum. Use of cogon/nipa/anahaw as materials for the roof decreased from 33.7 percent in 2000 to only 22.7 percent in 2007./p p align="JUSTIFY" /p p style="text-align: -webkit-left; " /p table border="0" width="100%" tbody tr td colspan="80%" /td td align="CENTER" nowrap="nowrap"font face="Arial" size="-1"(Sgd.) bCARMELITA N.
