Approving the Designation of the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP) as the New Private Sector Representative to the NSCB Executive Board

APPROVING THE DESIGNATION OF THE TRADE UNION CONGRESS OF
THE PHILIPPINES (TUCP) AS THE NEW PRIVATE SECTOR
REPRESENTATIVE TO THE NSCB EXECUTIVE BOARD

WHEREAS, Executive Order (EO) No. 121 was issued on 30 January 1987 creating the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) as the policy-making and coordinating body on statistical matters;

WHEREAS, Section 4 of EO 121 provides that the composition of the NSCB Executive Board shall include a private sector representative to be elected by the Board and whose term shall be for a period of three (3) years;

WHEREAS, the term of the private sector representative to the NSCB Executive Board, the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), expired in 2004;

WHEREAS, to rotate the membership among private organizations, thereby, broaden base for statistical advocacy, the Board in its meeting of 20 October 2004, resolved to elect a private sector representative to the Executive Board to succeed the PCCI in 2005;

WHEREAS, among the criteria, laid down in the 20 October 2004 meeting of the NSCB, to be used in selecting the new private sector representative, are that the organization must be willing to sit on the Executive Board, be active in its deliberations and attend its meetings regularly;

WHEREAS, among the eight (8) private organizations nominated by the Board, only the following organizations passed these criteria: (1) the Employers’ Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP); (2) the Federation of Philippine Industries (FPI); (3) the Makati Business Club (MBC); and (4) the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP).

WHEREAS, to enhance the partnership between the labor sector and the government in the generation of official statistics, the NSCB, in its 24 January 2005 meeting, approved the designation of the TUCP as its new private sector representative;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AS IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED that the Executive Board approve the designation of the TUCP as the new private sector representative to the Executive Board for a period of three years (from January 2005 to December 2007).
