APPROVING AND ADOPTING THE GENERAL POLICY ON THE
PRODUCTION, RELEASE AND DISSEMINATION OF MICRODATA
 IN THE PHILIPPINE STATISTICAL SYSTEM

WHEREAS, the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) issued Resolution No. 10, series of 1997 adopting the Government Statistics Accessibility Program to widen knowledge and facilitate faster and sounder decision-making by rendering statistical information and services more accessible to data users;

WHEREAS, NSCB Resolution No. 11, Series of 1997, provided that the adoption of data archiving measures by the Philippine Statistical System (PSS) is important in ensuring the preservation, systematic storage and retrieval of statistical data, including records on their methodology, concepts and metadata;

WHEREAS, NSCB Resolution No. 8, Series of 1999, adopted the standards for statistical information dissemination in the PSS which are aimed at addressing gaps and areas for improvement, particularly in the use of the latest technologies in disseminating statistical information, among others;

WHEREAS, the availability of microdata enables informed decision-making through wider access to more comprehensive/disaggregated data, maximized use of data, and diversity of analysis, among others;

WHEREAS, the National Statistics Office, the Food and Nutrition Research Institute, and the Bureau of Agricultural Statistics have been producing microdata/public use files (PUFs) of some of their respective censuses and surveys;

WHEREAS, the Interagency Committee on Statistical Information Management and Dissemination, having reviewed and evaluated the prevailing issues and concerns on microdata, has identified the need for policies and guidelines in the production, release and dissemination of microdata/PUFs to ensure timeliness of their release and accessibility to the public;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AS IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, that the Board approve the proposed General Policy on the Production, Release and Dissemination of Microdata (Annex BR-05-20110524-01) for adoption of PSS member agencies.
