Message of the Philippine Mission for its Candidature to the United Nations Statistical Commission
The Philippines, through the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), is fully committed to supporting the United Nations Statistical Commission as the highest decision-making body for international statistical activities especially the setting of statistical standards, the development of definitions, concepts, and methods and implementation at the national and international level.
The PSA has always been a staunch advocate of adhering to international commitments and the adoption of internationally-recognized statistical principles, declarations, and best practices. This is reflected in its quest to improve its statistical products and services, its processes and mechanisms, all in the spirit of innovation. The presence and influence of the Philippines and the PSA has been felt not only in the Asia-Pacific region but worldwide.
As part of Philippines' commitment to the achievement of the SDGs, the PSA spearheaded the very first International Conference on SDGs Statistics in 2017. In its previous role as Chair of the Inter-agency and Expert Group on SDG Indicators, the PSA had played a major role in the development of the SDG indicator system. In recognition of its efforts, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) endorsed the nomination of PSA as a nominee to the 2018 UN Public Service Awards for its initiative on SDG indicators mapping towards an efficient data ecosystem.
Through its linkages and partnerships, PSA continues to promote international cooperation in statistics through the sharing of experiences, practices, and expertise in statistics and remains committed to its vision of being solid, responsive, and world class.
