pbTotal population rose to 493,085 persons/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Zambales posted a total population of 493,085 persons as of August 1, 2007. This registered an increase of 59,543 persons over the total population of 433,542 persons in 2000. The 2007 figure translated to an annual population growth rate of 1.79 percent for the period 2000 to 2007./p p align="JUSTIFY"The number of households also rose by 18,172 from 91,613 in 2000 to 109,785 in 2007. This gave an average household size of 4.5 persons, a slight decrease from the 2000 average household size of 4.7 persons./p p align="JUSTIFY"bSubic remained as the most populated municipality/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Among the 13 municipalities in the province of Zambales, the municipality of Subic (15.6 percent) was the most populated, followed by Santa Cruz (10.6 percent) and Botolan (10.5 percent). San Felipe (4.3 percent) was the least populated municipality./p p align="center"img alt="Figure 1" src="http://census.gov.ph/data/pressrelease/2009/pr0984f1.gif" //p p align="JUSTIFY"bMore males than females/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"The household population in Zambales had 249,488 males and 241,582 females, which resulted to a sex ratio of 103 males for every 100 females. Likewise, in 2000, there were more males than females with a sex ratio of 102 males for every 100 females./p p align="JUSTIFY"bMedian age was 23 years/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Zambales recorded a median age of 23 years in 2007. This means that half of the household population was below 23 years old. The median age in 2000 was 22 years./p p align="JUSTIFY"The proportion to total household population of persons under 15 years old was 34.3 percent, wherein age group 5 to 9 years was noted to have the highest share of 11.8 percent. The proportions of those in age group below 5 years (11.5 percent) and 10 to 14 years (11.0 percent) were slightly lower than that of the age group 5 to 9 years./p p align="center"img alt="Figure 1" src="http://census.gov.ph/data/pressrelease/2009/pr0984f2.gif" //p p align="JUSTIFY"There were more males than females in the age bracket 0 to 54 years. On the other hand, there were more females than males in the age group 55 years old and over./p p align="JUSTIFY"bThree out of five persons were in the voting age group/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"More than half (59.4 percent) of the household population belonged to the voting-age population (18 years and over). This was slightly higher than the proportion of voting-age population (58.4 percent) recorded in 2000. The proportion of male voters (50.2 percent) to the total voting-age population was slightly higher than that of the female voters (49.8 percent) in 2007./p p align="JUSTIFY"bDependency ratio down to 64/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"The proportion of household population belonging to age group 0 to 14 years was 34.3 percent. The oldest group (65 years and over) posted a share of 4.8 percent while the working-age population (15 to 64 years) had a share of 60.9 percent of the household population./p p align="JUSTIFY"The overall dependency ratio in Zambales in 2007 was 64.3. This means that for every 100 persons aged 15 to 64 years, there were about 64 dependents (56 young dependents and 8 old dependents). The dependency ratio in 2007 was lower compared to the 2000 ratio of 66 persons per 100 working-age population./p p align="JUSTIFY"bMore females among widowed and divorced/separated/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"In 2007, two out of five (40.9 percent) of the household population 10 years old and over were single, while 44.9 percent were married. This was lower than the corresponding proportion of single persons (41.8 percent) and married persons (46.1 percent) recorded in 2000. On the other hand, there was an increase in the proportion of persons in common law/live-in status from 5.9 percent in 2000 to 7.7 percent in 2007./p p align="JUSTIFY"A higher proportion (55.6 percent) of males among singles was observed in 2007. On the other hand, females dominated the widowed (77.9 percent) and divorced/separated (61.8 percent)./p p align="JUSTIFY"bMore females pursued higher levels of education/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Of the household population five years old and over, 33.3 percent had attended or completed elementary education, 38.7 percent reached high school, 6.9 percent were college undergraduates, and 6.7 percent were academic degree holders./p p align="JUSTIFY"Among academic degree holders and among those with post baccalaureate courses, majority were females: academic degree holders, 57.2 percent and post baccalaureate degree holders, 66.2 percent./p p align="JUSTIFY"Among the household population 5 to 24 years old, 64.8 percent attended school at anytime during School Year 2007 to 2008. There were more males (51.2 percent) than females (48.8 percent) who attended school during School Year 2007 to 2008./p p align="JUSTIFY"b101 households for every 100 occupied housing units/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"A total of 109,785 households resided in 108,285 housing units in Zambales. This translated to a ratio of 101 households for every 100 occupied housing units or 4.5 persons per occupied housing unit. In 2000, the ratio of households to occupied housing units registered at 102 households for every 100 occupied housing units or 4.8 persons per occupied housing units./p p align="JUSTIFY"bProportion of occupied housing units with roofs and outer walls made of strong materials increased/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Most of the occupied housing units in Zambales had roofs made of galvanized iron/aluminum (79.5 percent), up by 7.9 percentage points from the proportion in 2000.
