Land Asset Accounts for Tree-Covered Areas.

The total tree-covered area of the Philippines increased from 6.5 million hectares in the beginning of 2010 to 7.8 million hectares in 2015. The trend for tree-covered area increased steadily with an average annual growth rate of 3.6 percent.

The annual average managed regression is around 6,000 hectares, amounting to around 42 thousand hectares within the five-year period. Meanwhile, this was offset by the annual average managed expansion of around 210,000 hectares, or a total of 1.3 million hectares from 2010 to 2015. This report is based on the Land Cover Statistics published for the years 2010 to 2015.

The asset accounts for tree-covered areas, covering closed and open forests in the Philippines, follows the United Nations System of Environmental-Economic Accounting (SEEA) 2012 Central Framework. The accounts provide information on the stocks and changes in stocks that help guide formulating activities and policies that will regenerate and improve the state of tree-covered areas in the country.
