- Value of Production Index shows substancial growth in June 2018
The Value of Production Index (VaPI) for manufacturing stepped up as it posted an annual growth of 18.9 percent from a negative growth rate of 2.1 percent in the same month of the previous year, based on the preliminary results of the Monthly Integrated Survey of Selected Industries (MISSI). Of the 13 major sectors that exhibited increases in VaPI, printing was the highest with a three-digit growth of 104.5 percent. This was followed by eight sectors which registered a two-digit growth. These were petroleum products (89.9%), textiles (37.5%), miscellaneous manufactures (26.1%), beverages (24.5%), machinery except electrical (21.8%), electrical machinery (18.5%), food manufacturing (14.2%) and paper and paper products (11.0%). Refer to Tables1-A and 1.
- Volume of Production Index likewise picks-up
The Volume of Production Index (VoPI) climbed to 18.0 percent in June 2018 as compared to a minimal drop of 0.1 percent in the same month last year. The increase was brought about by the expansion in VoPI for the 14 major sectors led by printing with a three-digit increase of 116.3 percent. Other eight sectors with significant increasesin VoPI were petroleum products (60.7%), textiles (36.7%), miscellaneous manufactures (21.0%), rubber and plastic products (20.7%), machinery except electrical (20.3%), electrical machinery (17.1%), food manufacturing (14.7%) and beverages (10.1%). Refer to Tables 1-B and 2.
- Value of Net Sales Index keeps its two-digit growth
The Value of Net Sales Index (VaNSI) sustained a two-digit growth rate of 10.9 percent in June 2018. Of the 13 major sectors that exhibited increases in VaNSI, 10 sectors registered two-digit growth, namely, tobacco products (68.1%), petroleum products (31.4%), basic metals (29.8%), miscellaneous manufactures (22.5%), furniture and fixtures (21.0), machinery except electrical (19.7%), paper and paper products (15.7%), electrical machinery (13.2%), food manufacturing (12.5%),and rubber and plastic products (10.9%). Refer toTables 2-A and 3.
- Volume of Net Sales Index further gains
The Volume of Net Sales Index (VoNSI) continued to grow exhibiting an increment of 9.7 percent in June 2018. Among the 13 major sectors reporting increments in VoNSI, 10 major sectors significantly contributed to the increases. These were rubber and plastic products (31.5%), basic metals (22.3%), paper and paper products (15.4%), food manufacturing (15.0%), machinery except electrical (14.4%), furniture and fixtures (12.6%), tobacco products (12.4%), miscellaneous manufactures (10.5%), electrical machinery (10.4%) and petroleum products (10.0%). Refer to Tables 2-B and 4.
Average Capacity Utilization Rate in June 2018 is 84.3 percent with petroleum products posting the highest among industries
Average capacity utilization rate in June 2018 for total manufacturing was recorded at 84.3 percent. Sixty percent or 12 of the 20 major industries operated at 80 percent and above capacity utilization rates. These are:
- petroleum products (89.7%)
- basic metals (89.0%)
- non-metallic mineral products (86.7%)
- machinery except electrical (86.2%)
- food manufacturing (85.3%)
- electrical machinery (85.0%)
- chemical products (84.9%)
- paper and paper products (83.6%)
- rubber and plastic products (83.3%)
- printing (81.8%)
- wood and wood products (81.4%)
- textiles (80.4%)
The proportion of establishments that operated at full capacity (90% to 100%) was recorded at more than one-fourth of the total number of establishments (26.5%) in June 2018. About 55.0 percent of the total establishments operated at 70 percent to 89 percent capacity while almost one-fifth of the total establishments (18.5%) operated below 70 percent capacity. Refer to Table B and 6.
