Construction Materials Wholesale Price Index (CMWPI) at the National Capital Region (NCR) remains at 8.0 % in October 2018

On an annual basis, the rate of change of CMWPI in NCR went up by 8.0 percent in October 2018 which was the same annual rate in September 2018. Its annual growth in October 2017 was recorded at 4.0 percent. Compared with their annual rates in September 2018, higher annual mark-ups were noted in the indices of the following commodity groups:

  • Sand and Gravel, 7.2%;
  • Concrete Products, 4.6%;
  • Cement, 2.1%;
  • Hardware, 6.9%;
  • Tileworks, 2.7%;
  • Doors, Jambs, and Steel Casement, 2.8%;
  • Painting Works, 0.9%; and
  • Fuels and Lubricants, 27.7%.

On the other hand, slower annual increases were registered in the indices of the following commodity groups during the month:

  • Plywood, 3.8%;
  • G.I. Sheet, 1.5%;
  • Reinforcing Steel, 10.0%;
  • Structural Steel, 4.6%; and
  • Plumbing Fixtures and Accessories/Waterworks, 2.0%.

The rest of the commodity groups either had zero growth or retained their previous month’s rates (see Table 2).

Month-on-Month

CMWPI at NCR picks up during the month

The month-on-month change of the CMWPI in NCR went up by 1.2 percent in October 2018. Its rate of change in the previous month was recorded at 0.6 percent. The indices of sand and gravel climbed by 4.6 percent; concrete products, 2.4 percent; and hardware, 0.3 percent. From a zero growth in the previous month, the indices of G.I. sheet rose by 0.1 percent; tileworks, 0.5 percent; and doors, jambs, and steel casement, 0.046 percent. Slower monthly increases were, however, registered in the indices of lumber at 0.2 percent and fuels and lubricants, 2.1 percent. Declines were posted in the indices of the following commodity groups:

  • Cement, -0.3%;
  • Reinforcing Steel, -0.8%;
  • Electrical Works, -0.042%; and
  • Painting Works, -0.047%.

The rest of the commodity groups had zero growth during the period (see Table 3).

Prices of petroleum products such as diesel and bunker fuel oil went up in October 2018. Sand and gravel, concrete products, selected hardware products, lumber, G.I. sheets and grout were also priced higher during the period.
