Year-on-Year

The year-on-year increase in the Construction Materials Wholesale Price Index (CMWPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) went up to 2.3 percent in November from 1.8 percent in October. Higher annual upward adjustments were recorded in concrete products index at 2.7 percent in November from 2.2 percent in October; cement index, 5.3 percent from 5.0 percent; hardware index, 1.8 percent from 1.3 percent; lumber index, 2.3 percent from 2.2 percent; doors, jambs and steel casement index, 2.4 percent from 2.2 percent; electrical works index, 2.6 percent from 2.4 percent; plumbing fixtures and accessories/waterworks index, 3.8 percent from 3.4 percent; painting works index, 0.7 percent from 0.6 percent; PVC pipes index, 2.9 percent from 2.1 percent; and fuels and lubricants index, 1.6 percent from -0.7 percent. The rest of the commodity groups either registered slowdowns or retained their previous month’s rate.

Month-on-Month

On a monthly basis, the CMWPI in NCR rose 0.3 percent in November from a zero growth in October. The index for concrete products index picked up 0.5 percent in November from 0.1 percent in October. From zero growth, the indices of the following commodity groups also increased during the month: PVC pipes (0.8%); plumbing fixtures and accessories/waterworks (0.7%); cement, hardware and lumber (0.6%); electrical works (0.5%); doors, jambs and steel casement (0.4%); G.I. sheet (0.3%); sand and gravel (0.2%); and plywood, structural steel and painting works (0.1%). The increment in tileworks index eased to 0.1 percent from 1.0 percent while those for the other commodity groups remained stable during the period.

Prices of gravel, plywood, cement, hollow blocks, G.I. sheets, angle bars, ceramic tiles, doors, jambs and steel casement, some electrical works, plumbing fixtures and accessories, paints and PVC pipes were on the uptrend during the month.
