    The year-on-year growth of the Construction Materials Wholesale Price Index (CMWPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) went up 1.1 percent in May from 0.6 percent in April. It resulted from a higher annual uptick in cement index at 6.8 percent in May from 6.7 percent in April; tileworks index, 4.6 percent from 4.2 percent; G.I. sheet index, 3.7 percent from 2.1 percent; concrete products index, 2.2 percent from 1.2 percent; and PVC pipes index, 1.1 percent from 0.6 percent. However, the fuels and lubricants index still recorded a negative annual rate of 6.0 percent from -6.7 percent. Likewise, slower annual gains were seen in the indices of the following commodity groups: sand and gravel, 1.9 percent from 2.1 percent; plywood, 1.2 percent from 1.5 percent; lumber, 2.2 percent from 3.4 percent; reinforcing steel, 2.7 percent from 3.1 percent; structural steel, 1.3 percent from 2.2 percent; glass and glass products, 0.7 percent from 0.8 percent; and electrical works, 1.8 percent from 2.1 percent. The rest of the commodity groups moved at their last month’s rates with the machinery and equipment rental index still registering a zero growth.

  • Month-on-Month

    Measured from a month ago level, the increment in the wholesale prices of selected construction materials in NCR improved to 0.1 percent in May from 0.2 percent. This was influenced by a 2.5 percent decline in the index for fuels and lubricants. Moreover, slower monthly mark-ups were posted in the indices of cement, reinforcing steel and electrical works at 0.1 percent from their corresponding last month’s rates of 1.3 percent, 0.4 percent and 0.5 percent and tileworks, 0.4 percent from 0.6 percent. On the other hand, the monthly adjustment in concrete products index grew by 1.0 percent from 0.3 percent; G.I. sheet index, 1.6 percent from 1.2 percent; and PVC pipes index, 0.5 percent from 0.4 percent. Movements in the indices of the other commodity groups were zero.

    Prices of hollow blocks, cement, G.I. sheets, steel bars, floor tiles, selected electrical works and PVC pipes were on the upward trend. Meanwhile, gasoline, kerosene and diesel oil were priced lower during the month.
