    The monthly growth rate of the Construction Materials Wholesale Price Index (CMWPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) further went down to 0.1 percent in May from 1.9 percent in April. This was mainly due to the declines in the corresponding indexes of cement and fuels and lubricants at -3.0 percent and -2.0 percent from 0.2 percent and 3.1 percent, respectively. Moreover, slower rates were observed in the indexes of sand and gravel; concrete products; hardware; plywood; reinforcing steel; doors, jambs and steel casement; electrical works; and plumbing fixtures and accessories/waterworks. On the other hand, the indexes of PVC pipes and asphalt correspondingly went up to 1.2 percent and 6.0 percent from zero growth. In addition, higher monthly gains were noted in the indexes of lumber (1.6 percent from 1.4 percent); structural steel (1.8 percent from 1.4 percent); and painting works (1.4 percent from 0.5 percent). The tileworks index moved at its last monthÒ³ rate of 0.6 percent while that for G.I. sheet; glass and glass products; and machinery and equipment rental index remained stable during the period.

    On an annual basis, wholesale prices of construction materials in NCR eased to 7.8 percent in May from 8.3 percent in April. It resulted from a drop in cement index at -2.2 percent from 1.7 percent. Likewise, slowdowns were recorded in the indexes of the following commodity groups: concrete products, 6.8 percent from 7.2 percent; lumber, 10.3 percent from 13.5 percent; G.I sheet, 2.4 percent from 3.9 percent; reinforcing steel, 7.2 percent from 8.0 percent; doors, jambs and steel casement, 6.5 percent from 7.3 percent; and fuels and lubricants, 16.6 percent from 18.4 percent. Meanwhile, higher annual additions were registered in the indexes of sand and gravel; hardware; plywood; structural steel; tileworks; electrical works; plumbing fixtures and accessories/waterworks; painting works; PVC pipes; and asphalt. The same rate of 1.8 percent was seen in glass and glass products index for three consecutive months. The annual movement of the machinery and equipment rental index was zero.
