    The wholesale price index of selected construction materials in the National Capital Region (NCR) went up to 0.8 percent in January from 0.5 percent in December. A higher monthly price increase was recorded in the index of concrete products at 0.7 percent in January from 0.1 percent in December; cement, 0.2 percent from -0.8 percent; hardware, 0.4 percent from -0.1 percent; plywood, 0.4 percent from 0.1 percent; and painting works, 0.4 percent from 0.2 percent. From zero growth, the indexes of the following commodity groups also picked up during the month: reinforcing steel and tileworks, 0.5 percent; lumber, doors, jambs and steel casement and plumbing fixtures and accessories/waterworks, 0.3 percent; and PVC pipes, 0.4 percent. However, a price decline was noted in the index of sand and gravel at -0.3 percent from -0.2 percent. Moreover, a slower price increment was posted in the index of structural steel at 0.1 percent from 0.2 percent. The upward price movements in the index of fuels and lubricants and electrical works remained at their corresponding last month's rates of 3.1 percent and 0.1 percent.

    The year-on-year growth rate of the Construction Materials Wholesale Price Index in NCR eased to 3.5 percent in January from 3.7 percent in December. Slower annual price gains were noticed in the indexes of the following commodity groups: sand and gravel (2.6% from 3.4%); concrete products (2.4% from 2.9%); plywood (4.8% from 5.3%); lumber (11.7% from 12.8%); G.I. sheet (4.4% from 8.3%); reinforcing steel (4.5% from 5.5%); structural steel (4.9% from 6.3%); electrical works (1.7% from 1.8%); plumbing fixtures and accessories/waterworks (0.8% from 1.2%); painting works (2.1% from 2.3%); PVC pipes (0.4% from 0.9%); and fuels and lubricants (7.1% from 7.2%). On the other hand, a higher annual price uptick was seen in the indexes of hardware, tileworks, glass and glass products and doors, jambs and steel casement. The growth rate in the prices of asphalt was at its previous month's annual rate while that for cement and machinery and equipment rental was zero.
