    Compared with January, the month-on-month growth of the Construction Materials Wholesale Price Index (CMWPI) in the National Capital Region went up to 0.6 percent in February from 0.1 percent. The monthly gain in sand and gravel index advanced to 1.1 percent in February from 0.3 percent in January; G.I. sheet, 0.9 percent from 0.3 percent; reinforcing steel, 0.4 percent from -0.9 percent; electrical works, 0.4 percent from 0.1 percent; and fuels and lubricants, 3.1 percent from 0.6 percent. From zero growth, the indices of hardware and PVC pipes also grew by 0.1 percent; and doors, jambs and steel casement, 0.2 percent. On the other hand, slower monthly rates were recorded in the indices of structural steel and painting works at 0.3 percent from their respective last month's rates of 0.6 percent and 0.5 percent. Moreover, negative monthly rates were noted in the indices of cement at -0.3 percent; plywood, -0.6 percent; and lumber, -0.1 percent. The plumbing fixtures and accessories/waterworks index moved at its last month's rate of 0.3 percent while the rest of the commodity groups had a zero growth.

    Price increases were registered in gasoline, diesel oil, sand and gravel, roofing and finishing nails, steel bars, flush type doors and PVC pipes. On the other hand, price reductions were seen in cement, plyboard, coco lumber and good lumber.

    The annual growth rate based on the CMWPI further decelerated to 6.8 percent in February from 7.5 percent in January. The annual rate of adjustment in cement index was still negative at -4.6 percent. In addition, the annual rate of increase in the indices of the following construction materials eased during the period: concrete products, 5.3 percent from 6.1 percent; plywood, 9.3 percent from 12.2 percent; lumber, 6.4 percent from 7.4 percent; reinforcing steel, 7.2 percent from 8.7 percent; structural steel, 7.6 percent from 9.4 percent; tileworks, 5.6 percent from 6.7 percent; doors, jambs and steel casement, 5.7 percent from 7.5 percent; electrical works, 8.9 percent from 10.0 percent; plumbing fixtures and accessories/waterworks, 4.3 percent from 5.0 percent; and painting works, 7.2 percent from 7.4 percent. Meanwhile, annual hikes were higher in the indices of sand and gravel, hardware, G.I. sheet, PVC pipes and fuels and lubricants. The indices of glass and glass products and asphalt retained their previous monthÒ³ rates while that for machinery and equipment rental index was zero.
